Memorial Biography

Roy Jack Russell was born in Redford Township, Michigan to Opal Lucille Franklin and James Vincent Russell on January 30, 1930. His siblings were James Vincent Russell and Shirley Ann Russell. In the Spring of 1952, Roy took Janet Lorraine Mitchell on a first date to Dipsy Doodle, a local drive-in, thus starting a 64-year long marriage. During this time and while awaiting the birth of his first child, he successfully worked to put himself through university, earning a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the University of Michigan in 1955. Roy had four children: Jeannine Hogard (Rich Hogard), Jeff Russell (Nancy Russell), James Russell (Gail Russell), and John Russell (Elaine Grohol). While raising his children in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, Roy built a successful career in civil engineering working at McAlpine and Thompson-Brown. Roy was proud to hold licenses of Professional Civil Engineer, Professional Land Surveyor and Professional Community Planner in Michigan and Florida. He would later fulfill his entrepreneurial spirit founding Roy J. Russell & Associates and Land-Tec, developing several subdivisions in Michigan. As his family grew, Roy was a constant figure in the life of his grandchildren: Jennifer Bundy, Katy Lollar (Kevin), Curt Russell (Rachel), Patrick Russell (Stephanie), Jamie Keshishian (Ed), and Morgan Moore (Christian). He eventually moved to St. Louis, Missouri and then Rogers, Arkansas to be closer to family. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Roy is survived by seven great-grandchildren.
